The University of Wyoming Art Museum shares in the transformative power of art through exhibiting, preserving, and interpreting visual culture from around the world. As an integral part of the University of Wyoming, we foster a deeper connection with humanity and a creativity that envisions new futures by engaging academic, local, state, national, and global communities.

  • Direct Support: You can help us achieve our mission by giving via the UW Foundation. Giving opportunities include: * Giving Online * Giving by Phone, and * Giving by Mail.
  • Donate Art: The Art Museum welcomes gifts of art to expand and advance its collections. In order to maintain the high standard of the collections, every potential donation must be reviewed by the Art Museum’s collections advisory committee. As much as we would love to accept all donations, not all gifts fit within our scope and mission and the Art Museum and the University of Wyoming have the right to refuse gifts or bequests. If a work of art is not approved, we may be able to work with you to find alternative museums/institutions for your generosity.

Volunteer: Volunteers are highly valued and relied upon at the Art Museum. Volunteers contribute hundreds of hours, their energy and expertise that allow the museum to succeed in its goal of bringing culture and art education to the people of Wyoming. If you are interested in volunteering, take a look at the opportunities below and contact the corresponding Museum staff member.

  • Adult Volunteer Program: We are currently building our Adult Volunteer Program. The main opportunities are in education, office assistance, marketing, and collections. Volunteers are also needed for special events. As a volunteer you will get to meet with artists, work with exhibitions, and explore the world of art.
  • Teen Volunteer Program: We are currently strategizing a revamped Teen Apprentice Program into the Teen Volunteer Program. If you know a young person between the ages of 12 and 17 who is interested in community service hours in a creative field please have them fill out our application form.

Docent Program: Docents receive museum training and provide critical support for the museum’s programs, including Shelton Studio programs, museum tours and special programs and projects. As a docent, you will have the chance to meet artists whose works are on exhibit, enjoy the camaraderie and explore the world of art. We are starting a Student Docent Program through the Museum and Archive Coalition, a registered student organization at the University of Wyoming. University students from all backgrounds and levels will receive training and give once per month tours of current museum exhibitions. Other opportunities exist to help with education and public programs, collections management and more. If you’re interested in the docent program, first become a volunteer! You must log at least 15 hours of volunteer time in order to qualify for the docent trainings.

Annual Benefit Gala: The gala is an annual fundraiser for the University of Wyoming Art Museum, and includes a dinner, live and silent auctions, and live entertainment. Typically, the gala has around 200-300 attendees who travel across the region to be a part of the evening events. The gala is hosted by the UW Art Museum National Advisory Board and provides significant financial support for museum exhibitions, collections, education and outreach.
