As an ADVOCATESupport the cause…

Founded in 1909 by Clifford W. Beers, Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all. During his stays in public and private institutions, Beers witnessed and was subjected to horrible abuse. From these experiences, Beers set into motion a reform movement that took shape and is known today as Mental Health America.

MHA’s programs and initiatives fulfill its mission of promoting mental health and preventing mental illness through advocacy, education, research and services. MHA’s national office and its 200+ affiliates and associates around the country work every day to protect the rights and dignity of individuals with lived experience and ensure that peers and their voices are integrated into all areas of the organization.

Be a DONORShow that you care…

Your gift means we can bring hope to the 1 in 5 Americans living with a mental health condition. Together we are fighting smarter, better and harder than we ever have before. Without your help, over a century of service to those in need would not have been possible. Thank you for your support.

Membership:

  • Associate Membership: Associate members are organizations whose mission supports and/or reflects MHA’s mission and Before Stage 4 philosophy. Membership is open to for-profit and non-profit organizations, community-based behavioral health providers, as well as other professions and fields.
  • Partnership: Building on our legacy of advocating for improvements for those living with mental health concerns, we are highly vested in developing a comprehensive network of partners. The partnerships formed between interested stakeholders advance our mission and cause to enable our communities to be better equipped and proactive in their overall health.

Donations:

Specified amounts are designated or you may give an amount of your choice. Monthly gifts are encouraged and you may consider donating as an honor or memorial gift.

  • Donate To Honor Someone: An honorary donation to Mental Health America supports a great mission — fighting stigma and improving the lives of all Americans — and can be a touching way to honor a loved one or valued friend or a great gift for the person who has everything. Honorary gifts can be given for birthdays, weddings, or as tokens of appreciation.
  • Legacy Giving: Your legacy is your statement to the world on what matters to you. Making a legacy gift to Mental Health America (MHA) shares your belief that mental health is vital to an individual’s health and well-being. Your gift makes a statement that you believe in prevention, early identification and intervention, and treatment for all – with recovery for all as the goal.
    • Bequest In Will: You may create a trust and transfer to it property and investments. The income from the trust would be paid to you or another lifetime income beneficiary for a designated period or for your life, and at your death the balance of the property and investments would go to MHA. Discuss this option with your financial advisor.
    • Life Insurance: You may make MHA the beneficiary of one or more life insurance policies. If your financial and family circumstances have changed through the years, you may choose to designate MHA as the beneficiary of a new or an existing life insurance policy.
    • Retirement Plan: You may leave a percentage portion or the entire balance of an IRA account or a 401k Plan to MHA by designating it as a beneficiary.
    • Charitable Lead Trust: You may create a Charitable Lead Trust and transfer property or investments to the trust for a set period of time. The annual earnings from the trust would go to MHA. When the trust terminates, the property and investments would be transferred to your designated beneficiaries. There is a possibility of being able to reduce or bypass gift and estate taxes using this vehicle.
    • Charitable Remainder Trust: You may create a trust and transfer to it property and investments. The income from the trust would be paid to you or another lifetime income beneficiary for a designated period or for your life, and at your death the balance of the property and investments would go to MHA.
  • Bell of Hope Memorial Funds: Honor the life of departed loved ones and friends whose lives were affected by mental illness or suicide by creating a Memorial Fund web page. Family and friends can visit, leave notes of support, share stories, and donate to help address the needs of those living with mental illness and to promote the overall mental health of all Americans.
  • Clifford Beers Society: “I must Fight in The Open.” Clifford Beers used those words to respond to critics who suggested he start his mental health movement anonymously. Over 100 years later, his legacy still guides the way as Mental Health America advances prevention for all; early identification and intervention for those at risk; integrated care, services, and supports for those who need them; with recovery as the goal. Mental Health America created the Clifford Beers Society to honor the generous giving of our most ardent and committed supporters, both individuals and organizations. We invite you to “fight in the open” and become a member of the Clifford Beers Society.
  • Combined Federal Campaign: Federal employees can donate a portion of their paycheck, pre-tax, to Mental Health America. Choose 10564 on your donation form.
  • Donate Cryptocurrency, Stock, or Donor-Advised Funds: Making a crypto, stock, or DAFs (Donor Advised Funds) donation to Mental Health America supports our mission to advance the mental health and well-being of all people living in the U.S. through public education, research, advocacy and public policy, and direct service. We accept donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and over 100 additional leading cryptocurrencies. We accept donations in publicly traded, domestic common stocks.
