- Friends of Magnolia Mound: Eight Donor Levels are offered. The exquisite furniture, decorative items and artifacts displayed in the main house and outer buildings are owned and cared for by the Friends of Magnolia Mound. The Friends organization also provides advisory and financial assistance in the care and maintenance of the Kitchen Garden, the production of Black History Month programming and other educational offerings and works in cooperation with BREC staff in the implementation of the master restoration plan of Magnolia Mound.
- Volunteer: Are you looking to give back to your community? BREC needs volunteers to fulfill our mission of providing park and recreational opportunities for all residents of East Baton Rouge Parish. With a range of facilities and programs, BREC has a volunteer opportunity for everyone. In keeping with our intent to provide the best possible services, we undergo a thorough volunteer screening process. As a result, we require volunteers to fill out an application and consent to a background check. Registered volunteers who contribute 30 or more hours during a tax year and complete ethics training qualify for a $500 Louisiana State Income Tax deduction.
- DOCENT COOKS: Docent cooks serve as interpreters of the museum’s open-hearth kitchen. The Magnolia Mound kitchen is a reproduction of what might have been present in the early 1800s, since the original has long since disappeared. Open-hearth cooking demonstrations are scheduled from October through May. Docent cooks help to give the visitor a deeper understanding and appreciation of the life on a plantation using old cooking methods.
- DOCENT INTERPRETERS: Docents serve as interpreters (tour guides) of the historic house. On days when there are no cooking demonstrations the docents also server as interpreters in the kitchen. A visit to Magnolia Mound includes an interpreter-led tour through nine rooms of the circa 1791 Historic House. The furnishings include a blend of French, Anglo-American, and Louisiana antiques that demonstrate the life-ways of the typical French Creole Planter Class. Docents help to give the visitor a deeper understanding and appreciation of the life on a plantation.
- EDUCATION DOCENT: Greet visiting school children; Lead activities in which the Education Docent will present historical information related to a specific topic; Encourage interaction between yourself and students about the information presented; Involve students in hands on activities that occurred on nineteenth century plantations; Facilitate and direct school groups in between programs; Be a positive influence on students who visit Magnolia Mound.
