As a VENUE: Host your event...

The historic Central Library Goodhue building was constructed in 1926. It is a downtown Los Angeles landmark. The complex is the third largest public library in the United States in terms of book and periodical holdings. The meeting rooms in all the libraries vary in size. Branch library meeting and venue rooms accommodate groups from the maximum of 40 to 130, depending on the library. NOTE: There are Over 60 Branch Libraries throughout Los Angeles.

THE LIBRARY STORE

The Library Store is a non-profit gift shop located inside the historic Los Angeles Central Library. We are part of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, which supports the Los Angeles Public Library. We offer an eclectic collection of * Books * Tees * Totes * Greeting cards * Keepsakes, and Much more! Much of our LAPL merchandise is designed in-house, and our inventory is sourced from a variety of vendors and small businesses, including local artists as well as cause-related organizations, making us a favorite destination in Downtown L.A. for gifts and unique finds. Membership

Join a community of annual supporters who ensure the Los Angeles Public Library continually has the resources needed to serve millions of children, teens, and adults across Los Angeles. Membership Levels include: * SUPPORTER * CONTRIBUTOR * SUSTAINER, and  * GUARANTOR. * YOUNG LITERATI: The Library Foundation’s Young Literati is a membership group for engaged Angelenos in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who have a shared interest in the literary life of our city. Members enjoy exclusive access to creative and civic leaders, discounts on ticketed Foundation programs, and invitations to the best events on the calendar — all while supporting the vital work of the Los Angeles Public Library. Membership Levels include: * FRIEND * PARTNER * PATRON * VANGUARD, and * UNDER-30 ADVOCATE. * LEADERSHIP CIRCLE: Members who give $1,000 or more annually lead the way for positive change in our community through enhancing and expanding the programs and services provided at the Los Angeles Public Library. Donation

Your gift to the Library Foundation of Los Angeles helps students succeed, promotes lifelong learning, and nurtures literacy throughout Los Angeles. Donations at specified amounts are designated and you may customize tour gifts. Recurring and Matching gifts are encouraged. Memorial and Tribute gifts are welcomed. And you may identify why you chose to give.

Become a Friend

The Los Angeles Public Library has many community support organizations which work with their local library to raise funds and sponsor programs to enhance library service throughout the community. Friends of the Library groups are non-profit organizations that * engage in activities that increase community awareness of the Los Angeles Public Library * provide volunteer and program support * raise funds to enhance library services of a branch, department or special service, and * advocate for the financial support of the library. The Los Angeles Public Library has over sixty active Friends of the Library groups. Groups hold book sales or raise funds in other ways. Annually, Friends give thousands of dollars to individual branch libraries and Central Library departments. If you would like to join or donate to a Friends group, ask to speak to the Senior Librarian of your preferred branch library or Central Library department. You may also contact Friends groups directly from the list below.

Docents: Docents provide tours to the public and work on volunteer projects at the Central Library.

BEST Friends: ​Supports the Business and Economics, and Science, Technology, and Patents Departments, as well as the Octavia Lab. The group’s purpose is to raise funds and provide financial assistance to these departments, enabling them to host special events and notable speakers, acquire new materials, and fund programs that benefit the public.

Culinary Historians of Southern California: Provides public programs on the role of food in society and supports the culinary collections at the Central Library.

FOCAL: The Friends of Children and Literature (FOCAL) brings children, books, and authors together through special events and programs at the Central Library. The group has established the FOCAL Award which is presented annually to an author or illustrator for a creative work which enriches a child’s appreciation for and understanding of California.

NOTE: There are 16 BRANCH LIBRARY Groups.

Book Donations / Book Sales

If you would like to donate books, please call your local branch library to see if they are able to accept donations at this time. Needed titles will be added to the Library’s collections. Other titles will be sold at branch book sales, with the proceeds benefiting the Library. Attend a book sale to get a great deal, and support the library!

Volunteer

From volunteering to interning, there are many ways to help support the Los Angeles Public Library. Opportunities include: * STAR (Story Telling and Reading) * Central Library Docent * Homework Assistant, and * many more!
