As an ADVOCATESupport the cause…

We envision a financially inclusive world where all people hold the power to improve their lives.

More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.

We do this by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva‘s work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.

By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, you can be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone’s life.  100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans.

Be a DONOR: Show that you care…

Kiva empowers underserved people to achieve their dreams by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital.
Donations:
100% of the money lent on Kiva goes to the field, so we rely on donations to continue this important work. More than two-thirds of our donations come from individuals like you. Specified amounts are designated or you may give an amount of your choice.
  • Kiva Cards: If you are giving a Kiva Card, they are divided into $25 increments. $30 Kiva Cards are also available to allow your recipient to include an optional donation to cover Kiva‘s cost of facilitating their loan.
  • Legacy Giving: With a planned gift to Kiva, your generosity and foresight will make a lasting impact on the lives of entrepreneurs around the world, working to create opportunities for decades to come.
    • Leave a Donation via Bequest: Donations to Kiva are vital in helping us work to fulfill our mission. A bequest is a donation that’s transferred after death by will or trust, and can be made in cash, securities, or as a percentage of a donor’s estate.
    • Leave Funds for a Revolving Loan Fund: If you prefer to leave a portion of your estate to lend to borrowers, you can do this using a regular Kiva account. Just instruct the executor of your estate to deposit funds into a revolving loan account (using Kiva’s auto lending tool and selecting loan criteria that you recommend).
  • Matched Giving: Many companies will match charitable donations their employees make.
  • AmazonSmile: Make Kiva Microfunds your charity of choice using AmazonSmile.
  • Partnerships: Together we can change lives. Individual donors and organizations partner with Kiva to amplify investment in the lives of those who need it most.
    • Accelerator Gifts and Grants: Partner with Kiva to scale financial access for historically excluded communities. Contribute to accelerating global financial inclusion. Kiva provides access to capital for historically excluded women and men in countries across the globe. Accelerator gifts and grant partnerships enable us to invest in our impact-first capacity, the capacity of our lending partners, research and data collection, and our ability to scale lending and innovation to those who need it most.
    • Customer Engagement: Customizable social impact engagement to inspire audiences and elevate your brand. Connecting audiences around a shared purpose. Brands partner with Kiva to develop customer engagement programs on Kiva.org, enabling audiences to lend a hand and empower individuals, families, and communities across the globe.
    • Employee Engagement: Inspire and engage your employees through world-class social impact programs. Connecting employees around a shared purpose. Employees want opportunities to make a difference and be part of something bigger than themselves. We partner with organizations to develop customized and turnkey employee engagement programs, enabling employees to lend a hand and empower individuals, families, and communities across the globe.
    • Loan Matching: Global and local impact through matching loans on Kiva.org. Multiplying global and local impact. With a revolving loan fund on Kiva.org, organizations and individuals can maximize their impact in the sectors and countries of their choice. Loan matchers can re-lend their funds again and again, multiplying their impact and helping Kiva.org borrowers get funded twice as fast.

Volunteer: We are humbled by the outstanding individuals who desire to volunteer their time with Kiva. Thank you for your interest!

  • Kiva Internship Program: Kiva Interns work hand in hand with Kiva‘s staff in our headquarters in San Francisco assisting with projects and processes that provide them exposure to Kiva‘s work in International Development, Technology, Nonprofit, and Social Enterprise fields. A typical internship is a part-time commitment of approximately 20 weeks, during which an individual is placed into a role working in program management, marketing and communications, product management, engineering, legal, development, or microfinance partnerships.
  • Kiva Fellows Program: Kiva Fellows are Kiva‘s eyes and ears in the field, typically serving with one or more of our international field partners for a 6-month period. Fellows provide critical operational support, conduct onsite monitoring, support the development of credit programs, help source potential new partners, and more. All fellows attend a week-long intensive training at Kiva’s headquarters in San Francisco before deploying to the field.
  • Kiva Review and Translation Program: Kiva Editors and Translators volunteer from their own homes for at least two hours per week editing, translating, and thoroughly reviewing loan profiles from around the world for publication on the Kiva website. If you are a native or near-native English speaker, you may be able to support Kiva‘s mission by editing or translating loan profiles, or by leading a team of volunteers.
