Rent the Museum! Are you interested in hosting an event on the beautiful and historic grounds of the Historical Museum? We offer opportunities for both public and private parties to reserve space on the grounds throughout the year. Our site includes many amenities such as electrical hookups, restrooms, a historic gazebo, picnic tables, and ample and accessible parking. Our mature trees provide a beautiful canopy of shade in the summer months. And don’t forget, the outstanding iris garden has a walkway for easier viewing and provides a delightful backdrop for wedding photos.

The Friends of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula raise funds for educational programs and internships, exhibits and collections care, restoration projects and preservation of archaeological sites and historic buildings, and events for the enjoyment of our community.

Legacy: Whether you would like to put your donation to work today or create benefits after your lifetime, you can find a charitable plan that lets you provide for your family and support your charitable goals. The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula works with Montana Community Foundation to assist you to create a lasting legacy for our community. If you would like to extend your charitable support to make a lasting impact, there are several gift arrangements to choose from:

- MT Endowment Tax Credit: Individuals who make a planned gift to a qualified Montana endowment fund will receive a tax credit of 40% of their gift, with a maximum credit of $10,000 ($20,000 for joint filers). Your planned gift can support the Friends of the Historical Museum’s Endowment and keep history alive for future generations.
- Bequests: The simplest form of planned gift and may be included in a new or revised will. Bequests may be designated to a specific project or program, or may be unrestricted. Before making a restricted bequest intention, please contact the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula to ensure your eventual wishes will be fulfilled. We will prepare a statement of intent that can be referenced in your estate documents.
- Retirement Plans: You may wish to designate HMFM as the beneficiary of all or part of your retirement plan assets and set aside other assets for family and friends. As a tax-exempt organization, the Museum will generally receive the full amount of the plan’s value.
- Life Insurance: You may name HMFM as a beneficiary of all or part of a new or existing life insurance policy. Depending on the type of policy donated, you may receive an immediate income tax deduction and be able to deduct any future premium payments on the policy.
Object Donation: Interested in Donating an artifact to the museum? The Museum collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts related to the exploration, founding, and evolution of the City and County of Missoula, the development and evolution of Fort Missoula. The Museum collects, preserves, and interprets objects from the period of earliest exploration of the Missoula Valley to the present in order to present a coherent and total picture.
Volunteer & Internship: Volunteers are the backbone for our museum operations. We value and appreciate the time and energy that our awesome volunteers contribute to help make history happen here at the museum. Are you interested in joining our outstanding crew of support? Here are some of the fun ways you can help: Museum and front desk, Children’s programs, Adult programs, Special Events, Tours and Museum Interpretation, Curatorial Support ( working with artifacts), Assist with exhibit construction and installation, Photography, Social Media, Marketing.
