Be a DONOR: Show that you care…
The Children’s Museum of Richmond is much more than a space for children to play — it’s a community resource of programs and activities, all built around learning through play and providing access for all children and their caregivers. As a non-profit organization, our mission is facilitated by the support of our staff, board, and volunteers, along with the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Membership
At the Children’s Museum, children’s growth is inspired by engaging families in the power of play, knowing that everyone can learn more — and develop more rapidly — when they play together. When you become a member, it means more than just great member benefits — it means helping more of our community receive the benefit of learning through play, helping us serve more than 300,000 visitors every year, along with additional, community-focused services and programs. Membership at specified levels is offered: * Family * Family Plus * Grandparent, and * Patron. NOTE: Gift Memberships are encouraged.
-
- Scholarship Family Memberships: As a part of our commitment to encouraging lifelong learning in children, the Children’s Museum is proud to offer a variety of scholarship opportunities, made possible by the generosity of our donors and sponsors who support the Access for All program. Scholarship qualifications are determined by household income, not individual income. The Children’s Museum is pleased to offer Scholarship Family Memberships to those families whose household income is less than $44,360 per year or families that qualify for Virginia SNAP benefits.
Donation
Any gift, large or small, helps make a difference. Your donation to the Children’s Museum means families will be able to continue learning through play for years to come! The Children’s Museum relies on gifts from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations to serve more than 300,000 visitors each year.
- Annual Fund: Gifts designated to the Annual Fund allow the museum to continue serving our community and may be used however needed in support of the museum’s mission. Donations at specified amounts are designated or you may customize your gifts. You may donate on behalf of a business, organization, or in memory, honor, or tribute to a special person or occasion. Recurring gifts are greatly appreciated. Employer matched gifts are welcomed.
- Access for All: Our Access for All program makes it possible for low-income and at-risk children, families, and schools to receive free and/or reduced access to the museum’s resources. This includes single day admissions, Scholarship Family Memberships, field trips, caregiver education, and age-appropriate books, all as a part of our goal to provide growing access to the museum for those who need it most. Specific donation amounts cover designated privileges.
- Book Bank: Gifts to the Book Bank allow the museum to purchase new books whenever the Book Bank’s needs outnumber the books being donated by members of the community. These gifts become particularly helpful when bilingual books are requested! Specific donation amounts cover designated numbers of books per number of families or grade levels.
- Family Education: Gifts support caregiver education for low-income and at-risk communities.
- Corporate Giving: Is your company looking to become more involved in its community? Through exhibit and programming sponsorships, a corporate gift to the Children’s Museum is an investment in your employees and families across Central Virginia!
- Stock Donations: The Children’s Museum of Richmond gladly accepts stock donations as a means of support.
- Matching Gifts: Make your gift go further! Many employers match charitable contributions, doubling your impact at no additional cost. Check with your HR team to see if your company offers matching gifts and help bring more families to learning through play at CMoR.
- Planned Giving: To learn more about planned giving opportunities at the Children’s Museum of Richmond, please view our online brochure or contact the Museum.
- Qualified Charitable Distribution: Did you know that if you are 70 ½ or older a donation from your IRA directly to the Children’s Museum of Richmond can provide great tax benefits? An IRA owner who is 70 ½ or older can donate and therefore exclude up to $100,000 from gross income of their required minimum distribution; for a married couple, if both individuals are age 70 ½ or over and both have IRAs, each person can exclude up to the $100,000, totaling $200,000 per year. If you wish to take advantage of this great program, please contact your IRA plan administrator – the donation must come directly from your IRA to the Children’s Museum. And, please make sure that your plan administrator includes your name and address so that the Children’s Museum can mail you a written acknowledgment of your contribution. Questions?
