As an ADVOCATESupport the cause…

We work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are denied.

Amnesty International is a global movement of millions of people demanding human rights for all people – no matter who they are or where they are. We are the world’s oldest and largest grassroots human rights organization.

OUR VISION FOR CHANGE
All people have fundamental human rights. But those rights are abused or denied every single day. When that happens, Amnesty International finds the facts, exposes what’s happening, and rallies people together to force governments and others to respect everyone’s human rights.

And we get results. The mobilization of Amnesty activists, along with direct advocacy and public education work, enables us to win changes in laws, policies, culture, and on the individual cases themselves. We have changed laws in dozens of countries on refugees, reproductive rights, LGBT equality, free speech, the death penalty, and other critical human rights issues.

From start to finish, our work focuses on the individual – people whose human rights are abused, and people who have the power to change the world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work.

Donations at specified amounts are designated or you may customize your gift. Recurring gifts are encouraged.

  • Give in Honor of a Loved One: Help Amnesty work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are denied. Give a meaningful gift – make a donation in honor of, or in memory of, someone special today.
  • Give through Work – Payroll Deductions: Automatically deduct charitable gifts from your paycheck monthly, bimonthly or weekly. Contributions to Amnesty International USA are tax deductible.
  • Give through Work – Employer Matching: Your gift to Amnesty International may be doubled or even tripled. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match tax-deductible charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
  • Make a Stock Gift: Making a gift to Amnesty International USA in the form of appreciated stock or mutual funds allows you to have an immediate impact on our human rights work worldwide, while also possibly paying less in income taxes.
  • Give Through Your Donor Advised Funds: By making a grant recommendation to Amnesty International USA, through your Donor Advised Fund, you become a force for human rights.
  • Planned Giving: Amnesty International USA’s planned giving staff can help you think creatively about your giving options. A well-planned legacy gift can provide tax benefits, financial security and a larger donation to Amnesty International USA.
  • Gifts of Real Estate: Making a gift of real estate to charity may be an appealing option for property owners with appreciated value, as it helps avoid capital gains tax liabilities. Additionally, it benefits individuals seeking to simplify estate planning, reduce estate tax liability, and relieve themselves from ownership expenses and maintenance burdens.
  • Gifts in Wills: Whether you’re 18 or 108, everyone should have a will in place. People use wills to choose who gets their property, name guardians for minor children, provide a plan for pets, and more. Through a will, many people also choose to leave a part of their estate to Amnesty International USA and make an impact on the causes they love, for years to come.
  • Beneficiary Designations: Assets not included in your will are called non-probate assets. Examples are 401(k)s, IRAs, life insurance policies, and other accounts. Designating the Amnesty International USA as a beneficiary can have a big impact and may avoid unwanted taxes for your heirs.
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts: A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) is a planned giving tool that allows donors to make a significant charitable impact while also providing financial benefits to themselves or their beneficiaries. This type of trust is an irrevocable arrangement in which a donor transfers assets into a trust that is managed and invested by a trustee. The trust pays income to designated beneficiaries for a set number of years or for their lifetime, after which the remaining assets are distributed to charity.
  • Charitable Lead Trusts: A Charitable Lead Trust is a type of trust that allows you to make a charitable gift while retaining some control over the assets during your lifetime. This type of trust makes annual payments to a charity for a set number of years, after which the remaining assets are distributed to non-charitable beneficiaries that you choose (many people choose their family members).
  • Gifts of Cryptocurrency: Donating cryptocurrency directly is a fast and secure way to make a tax-smart charitable contribution.
  • Qualified Charitable Distributions: A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-efficient way for individuals who are age 70 ½ or older to make gifts directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). QCDs can count towards satisfying an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, which is the minimum amount that an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach age 73.
  • Gifts of Retained Life Estate: A Retained Life Estate is a planned giving arrangement where individuals can donate their home or real property to a charitable organization while retaining the right to live in it for their lifetime. It is ideal for homeowners who wish to make a significant charitable gift while still enjoying the property’s use and avoiding the complexities and costs associated with transferring ownership during their lifetime.

Volunteer: Leadership Opportunities for Volunteers: Amnesty International is an international grassroots movement. Much of our work is done by our network of volunteer groups. We have groups in communities and churches and on high school and college campuses. There are professional networks of lawyers and educators. We very much hope that you will consider joining one of these groups. We invite you to join their efforts to release prisoners of conscience, to focus on targeted country campaigns, or to work on other human rights issues such as torture, refugees, and the death penalty. Groups are also involved with outreach and media work in their communities, constantly seeking to increase the visibility of Amnesty International’s human rights message.
