Donations:
Museums don’t sprout from the ground organically nor do they function in a vacuum. Museums are funded and cared for by passionate people through donations. You and your financial support make possible our preservation of banjo history. Won’t you please take a moment and send a generous gift to help us in this important mission? Donors do much more than just keep the lights on…they literally breathe life into any museum. Every day, people from around the world – just like you – take the time to give in support of the American Banjo Museum, the only museum of its kind in the world. Please give what you can knowing that no matter what the amount, your belief and support means so much to us. Your donations are essential in allowing us to continue preserving important banjos, their history, and the music they make, keeping all of these things alive for future generations to discover and appreciate.
- Your Cash gift may be customized. Recurring giving is encouraged. You may donate on behalf of a business, organization or as a tribute to a special person or occasion.
- Monthly Giving: A monthly recurring gift is a convenient way to donate with impact. When you become a Sustaining Donor, you join a committed community that provides ongoing support for the American Banjo Museum all year long. Recurring gifts can be increased/decreased or canceled at any time.
- Multiple-Year Cash Pledge: You can pledge a gift and pay over a period of up to five years.
- Bequest through Will: It is very simple to give of your estate. You can make a gift bequest, after others have been provided for, of a dollar amount, specific property, a percentage of the estate, or the remainder to the American Banjo Museum.
- Outright Gift of Real Estate: One of the most overlooked gift forms is real estate. A gift of land, a house, or vacation home is a perfect gift. You will impact generations yet to come and receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value, as well as avoiding all capital gain taxes.
- Retirement Accounts: Retirement Account Funds (IRAs or company plans) beyond the comfortable support of yourself or loved ones may be given (such as life insurance proceeds) to the American Banjo Museum by proper beneficiary designation.
- Personal Property (Collections, Royalty Rights, etc.): Gifts of personal property are always welcome, including collections, royalty, and mineral rights. Charitable tax deductions are available in the year of the gift.
- Appreciated Stock: Appreciated stock (held more than one year) makes an excellent gift. Avoid all capital gain taxes, receive a tax deduction, and deduct up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income.
- Bonds & Mutual Funds: Bonds and mutual funds are similar to cash in their tax treatment. State, Municipal, and U.S. Government Bonds are welcome.
- Gift of Life Insurance: It is easy to make a significant gift by naming the American Banjo Museum as a beneficiary to receive all, or a portion of the proceeds of an existing life insurance policy. You will receive a tax deduction for the cash surrender value, thus reducing your tax liability in the year of the gift.
- Real Estate with Life Tenancy: Receive a substantial income tax deduction by giving (deeding) your home or farm to the American Banjo Museum now. You continue to live there, maintain the property as usual, and even receive any income it generates. At your death, the American Banjo Museum will convert your property into cash to support its mission.
- In-Kind Gifts: Gifts of goods or services are welcomed by the American Banjo Museum with prior approval by the Museum Director. Ordinarily these gifts will be accepted at their full fair market values as determined by appraisal or other appropriate valuation techniques. (Gifts of instruments or other tangible items will be converted to cash unless otherwise accepted by the Museum for placement within its collection, or otherwise agreed upon.)
- Planned Giving: With each passing generation, more of America’s musical heritage is lost forever. Aware of our mission to reverse this trend, many individuals are including the American Banjo Museum in their long-term giving and estate planning. Estate planning may allow you to make a larger gift than may otherwise be possible while insuring that funds remain accessible to you until they are no longer needed.
- Bequests: A gift by will or living trust is easy to arrange. Your gift is private, does not affect cash flow during your lifetime and may be revoked at any time prior to your death. And an outright bequest to the museum is fully deductible for estate tax purposes.
- Charitable Remainder Trusts: Individually created and managed trusts; one type provides a guaranteed fixed income, while another provides a fluctuating annual payment based on a percentage of the trust’s principal.
- Life Insurance: Gifts through life insurance are a practical way to give a substantial gift at a moderate cost. With this option, the American Banjo Museum may either be named as the beneficiary or owner of the policy. Estate planning may require consulting a legal professional to help you prepare documents to insure your wishes are carried out. The American Banjo Museum can help you with suggested wording to bring with you when you meet with your legal professional.
- American Banjo Museum Wall of Honor: The original Wall of Honor program recognized individuals and groups who helped the museum get its start in Guthrie, OK in 1998. Today, the Wall of Honor program continues to recognize like minded individuals who financially support the mission of the American Banjo Museum. You too can be permanently recognized as a member of the Wall of Honor with a tax-deductible gift of $1000 or more. Add your name by supporting the American Banjo Museum with a tax-deductible gift of $1000 or more.

You may qualify for a tax deduction while supporting a cause that is near and dear to your heart! Vehicle donation pick-up is always free to you and most vehicles can be picked up within 24-72 business hours. You’ll receive an initial car donation receipt upon pick-up and then our team will work to turn your car into cash to support our cause. - Gift an Item: The American Banjo Museum encourages the donation of banjos and items related to their history. Gifts of banjos, or funds to purchase banjos, ensure that the Museum can continue to form a world-renowned collection. Your gift can help the Museum strengthen and broaden its great collection. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Museum Director. If you wish to donate a banjo or related item to the American Banjo Museum, please submit a letter of intent to the Museum. This letter should include a description of the instrument(s) or item(s) including any specific details that may apply such as make, model, serial number, condition, etc. Photographs are very helpful in this process. If the banjo or item has historical significance, please note this in the letter as well. The Museum requests that potential donors submit this information and wait for confirmation prior to shipping or bringing items in for possible donation.
