As a VENUE: Host your event…

Set in Rockland, the Art Capital of Maine, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers gracious and unique settings for special occasions. The Farnsworth’s 1948 Georgian-style brick museum and library houses an outstanding art collection that celebrates Maine’s important contributions to American art. Events on the Farnsworth campus are inherently infused with both history and a sense of current art and culture. As a result, an event at the Farnsworth is the best way to entertain clients, to recognize employees, and to celebrate life’s special moments, all while experiencing the most celebrated artists and recognized art in America. Entertaining at the museum, which can include a docent-led gallery tour or self–guided exhibition viewing, gives your guests a truly unique experience and sets the stage for an event that cannot be replicated. Seven distinctive spaces are available:

The Farnsworth Art Museum is proud to be a beacon of comfort and joy to thousands of visitors in our museum and online every year. Your contribution helps so many: the children who learn to love art, the families and friends who take pleasure in their visit, the teachers who are assisted by our free Arts in Education program, the local businesses that see a boost in sales when the museum is open. Thank you for your steadfast and loyal support. The Museum Fund for Excellence supports the important role the Farnsworth plays in our community and steadies our course now and into the future.

  • Donations at specified amounts are designated or you may customize your gift. Recurring gifts are encouraged. Memorial and tribute gifts are welcomed.
  • Corporate Partnerships: The Farnsworth offers a variety of opportunities for companies to partner with the museum to meet your marketing, philanthropic, and community engagement goals while enjoying opportunities to mix and mingle with the museum’s patrons and other valuable benefits. An anchor institution in Rockland and a cultural touchstone for Maine and beyond, the Farnsworth generates an estimated $58 million in economic impact to the region each year. The Farnsworth is a major art resource for the state of Maine, nationally, and globally. The Farnsworth delivers creative programming and exceptional visitor experiences, built upon the strengths of its nationally-renowned collection. The museum collaborates with economic, cultural, educational, and civic sectors and contributes to a vibrant artistic community and tourist destination.
  • Legacy Giving – Bequests:  A bequest made through one’s will or trust is the simplest and most common way to make a legacy gift to the Farnsworth. You may specify that the Farnsworth Art Museum is to receive a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular piece of property. You may also specify the purpose of your contribution.
  • Legacy Giving – Life Insurance & IRAs: Designating the Farnsworth as a beneficiary of your life insurance, 401k, 403b, or other retirement plan can greatly reduce your taxable estate and save thousands of dollars in estate taxes while providing a windfall to the Farnsworth. In addition to tax savings, gifting life insurance is easy. All you have to do is notify your plan administrator that you wish for the Farnsworth Art Museum to receive all or a portion of your fund. Have a life insurance policy that you no longer need? You may be able to gift whole life insurance policies now to the Farnsworth to help fund critical museum projects and enjoy a tax advantage.
  • Gifts of Art: Donations of art or contributions to purchase art expand our collection and mission. Donations of artwork are reviewed for acceptance by our curatorial team and board.
  • Exhibition Development & Education Fund: Support a season of exhibitions and related educational programs at the museum or help fund our model education outreach.
  • Endowment: Establish a new fund or add to the principal of an existing fund to provide a reliable source of annual income that sustains the Farnsworth forever.

Library Membership: The Farnsworth Art Museum proudly offers a membership program at a discounted rate specifically for libraries to increase access to the museum’s world-renowned collection of art. Each member library is able to lend out up to four membership cards to the Farnsworth at a time. Libraries can offer this cultural amenity to their patrons, further propagating educational knowledge and community connections among all Mainers. With each membership, the Farnsworth will provide advertising copy and a poster PDF so libraries can promote the available membership cards to their own patrons. Connecting our communities and ensuring access to art for all—it’s a win-win for everyone involved!
