Donations

Every gift has a meaningful impact on the work we do to provide transformative art experiences for our local community and for visitors from around the globe.

Give to the Annual Fund: Your gift to the Annual Fund will help bring special exhibitions and meaningful educational programs for people of all ages possible. Gifts of all sizes make an impact on the museum’s present and future and are fully tax-deductible. Thank you for considering a gift to sustain the extraordinary work of the Philadelphia Art Museum.

  • Donations at specified amounts are designated or you may customize your gifts. Recurring gifts are encouraged. You may donate on behalf of a business, organization, or in memory, honor, or tribute to a special person or occasion. You may direct your gift to the area of most need or designate your donation by selecting from the following: • AcquisitionsConservation • ART 24/7 • Education • Endowment • Exhibitions • Library & Archives, and • Annual Fund.
  • Endowment: Make a long-term investment that will benefit the museum for years to come with a gift to the endowment.
  • Gifts of Stock: Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds held for more than one year) are excellent ways to support the museum. Such gifts are easy to make and may provide a greater tax benefit than an equivalent gift in cash. A gift of stock owned for more than one year may entitle you to an income-tax charitable deduction for the full fair-market value of the donated asset. If the stock has appreciated, you also avoid any capital-gains tax on the appreciation.
  • IRA & Donor-Advised Fund Gifts: RA and Donor-Advised Fund gifts are two tax-wise ways to support the museum and make a difference. Qualified Charitable Distribution: If you are 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free transfer of up to $108,000 per year directly from your individual retirement account (IRA) to the museum. This is called a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). Donor-Advised Fund Gifts: Donor-advised funds (DAF) are a simple strategy to achieve your charitable goals. The donor receives a charitable income tax deduction when the DAF is created and then recommends one-time or recurring grants to their favorite nonprofit organizations, such as the museum. Simply contact the Community Foundation or Sponsoring Organization where you have established your DAF and recommend a grant to the museum. If your fund is at one of the DAF Direct participating organizations (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or BNY Mellon).
  • Matching Gifts: Multiply the impact of your personal support for the Museum by submitting an Employee Matching Gift Form. These gifts – when combined with your generous donation – double or triple the resources that make possible the Museum programming you enjoy. Companies That Match Employee Gifts: Your employer will match the tax-deductible portion of your gift to the museum. If your company is not listed here, please check with your Human Resources department to see if your gift can be matched.
  • Gifts of Works of Art: Since the founding of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1876, gifts of works of art– from individual pieces to entire collections – have been critical in forming and growing our world-renowned collection. Our holdings continue to grow thanks to the generosity of philanthropic collectors of the past and present. Prospective donors can give works of art:
    • as an outright gift.
    • as an irrevocable promised gift.
    • as a fractional gift (where the giver maintains the partial ownership of the work over a period of 10 years)
    • as a bequest in the giver’s will.
  • Planned Gifts: By including the Philadelphia Art Museum in your estate planning, you can benefit yourself, your family, and an institution that you value and believe in. Planned gifts take many forms, from bequests to retirement accounts to real estate, and all are celebrated through our legacy society.
  • Community Engagement: The Philadelphia Museum of Art strives to build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and social service agencies. We offer programs and educational opportunities that connect diverse communities with the museum’s rich collections and resources. Supporting community-based initiatives in youth development and arts education, the museum reaches out to communities around the region with the mission of making art accessible to everyone. Teen Programs: Our teen programs are designed to inspire, mentor, and prepare students for leadership roles and further study in the visual arts.
  • Corporate Support: Businesses are a vital part of the museum community and provide critical support for art education programs, access for underserved communities, special exhibitions, and the care and display of our exceptional collections. Businesses can get involved at the museum through sponsorships, becoming a Corporate Partner, or participating in the Pennsylvania EITC program—each offers branding opportunities, complimentary museum access, and more. Sponsorship: Sponsoring an exhibition, education program, or event allows companies to meaningfully partner with the museum on areas that speak to their philanthropic goals. In return, companies receive brand recognition on marketing materials, access to the museum and sponsored events, and entertaining opportunities for their employees and clients. Corporate Partners Program: Through annual museum membership catered to the business community, Corporate Partners generously provide essential operating support that holistically advances the museum—the work of the exceptional staff who bring the institution to life. Each membership level offers exclusive benefits, including participation on our Corporate Executive Board, complimentary catalogues for select exhibitions, complimentary general admission, guided tours, networking and entertainment opportunities, discounts, and much more. Tiers include: * Alliance * Supporter * Copper * Bronze * Pewtwer * Silver, and * Gold.
Volunteer: Make new friends while getting to know the inner workings of one of the nation’s premier cultural institutions. The museum has a strong tradition of support from volunteers of all ages. Approximately 500 volunteers from all over the community work in nearly every department at the museum, providing services to visitors and assisting behind the scenes.
